Louann Brizendine

Louann Brizendine is an American scientist, neuropsychiatrist, researcher, clinician, and professor at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She was born on December 30, 1952, in Kentucky, United States.

Dr. Brizendine completed her degree in Neurobiology at UC Berkeley, graduated from Yale School of Medicine, and did her internship and residency at Harvard Medical School. She has served on the faculties of both Harvard University and the University of California at San Francisco.

At UCSF, she founded the Womenโ€™s Mood and Hormone Clinic in 1994, where she continues to serve as the clinicโ€™s director. Her research and clinical work focus on the relationship dynamics resulting from the neurobiology of male and female brains.

She is a best-selling author, known for her books The Female Brain (2006), The Male Brain (2010), and The Upgrade (2022). These works explore the neurobiological differences between males and females and have been widely read around the world.
