Daniel Joseph Levitin, FRSC is an American-Canadian polymath, known for his work as a cognitive psychologist, neuroscientist, writer, musician, and record producer. Born on December 27, 1957, he is celebrated for authoring four New York Times best-selling books, including This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession, which has sold over 1.5 million copies.
Levitin holds the title of James McGill Professor Emeritus at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has also served as the Founding Dean of Arts & Humanities at Minerva University and a Distinguished Faculty Fellow at the Haas School of Business, University of California at Berkeley. He directs the Laboratory for Music Perception, Cognition, and Expertise at McGill and has been involved with the Grammys and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Levitin's books, including The World in Six Songs and The Organized Mind, have been international bestsellers, collectively selling over 3 million copies worldwide. As a music consultant, producer, and sound designer, he has worked with renowned artists like Blue Γyster Cult, Chris Isaak, and Joe Satriani.
