Megan Devine

Megan Devine is a best-selling author, psychotherapist, podcaster, and grief advocate. Over the past decade, she has pioneered a more empathetic, inclusive, and skillful response to grief of all kinds. Her mission is to provide the skills needed when life goes horribly wrong, which also apply to everyday life in becoming a good friend, partner, doctor, or citizen of the world.

In the summer of 2009, Megan experienced an immense personal loss when she watched her partner, Matt, drown. Despite being strong, fit, and healthy, Matt's unexpected death was devastating. Since then, Megan has dedicated her work to improving the world for grieving people, which essentially means everyone.

Megan believes that talking about difficult, emotional topics, whether it be death, chronic illness, job loss, or family conflict, can be awkward. She rejects the notion that "everything happens for a reason" or that resilience can cover every situation. Instead, she emphasizes the importance of giving oneself permission to be awkward and learning the necessary skills to navigate emotional conversations.
