George R.R. Martin

George Raymond Richard Martin, known as George R. R. Martin and often referred to by his initials G.R.R.M., is a renowned American author, television writer, and producer, born on September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey. He is best known for his series of epic fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, which were adapted into the Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019) and its prequel series House of the Dragon (2022–present).

In addition to his novels, Martin played a pivotal role in creating the Wild Cards anthology series and contributed to the world-building for the video game Elden Ring (2022). In 2005, Time magazine's Lev Grossman dubbed Martin as "the American Tolkien," and in 2011, he was named one of the most influential people in the world in the annual Time 100 list.

Martin is a longtime resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he has supported local initiatives such as the Meow Wolf art collective and owns the Jean Cocteau Cinema. The city of Santa Fe honors him with a dedicated day, March 29, celebrated as George R. R. Martin Day.
