Vivek Shraya is a Canadian musician, writer, and visual artist. She is a seven-time Lambda Literary Award finalist and is regarded as a Great Canadian Filmmaker of the Future by CBC Arts.
Shraya is devoted to providing creative writing opportunities to emerging BIPOC writers through her award-winning publishing imprint, VS. Books, which offers mentorship and publishing opportunities for these writers.
She also serves as a director on the board of the Tegan and Sara Foundation, which advocates for health, economic justice, and representation for LGBTQ women.
Her web series, How to Fail as a Popstar, adapted from her stage play and book of the same name, premiered in 2023 on CBC Gem.
Shraya's body of work spans across music, literature, visual art, theatre, and film. She is the author of several acclaimed books, including The Subtweet, Death Threat, even this page is white, The Boy & The Bindi, She of the Mountains, and God Loves Hair. Her best-selling Iโm Afraid of Men was praised by Vanity Fair as โcultural rocket fuel.โ
She is part of the music duo Too Attached, and also serves as an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Calgary.
