Rose D. Friedman

Rose Director Friedman (December 30, 1910 – August 18, 2009) was a renowned free-market economist and co-founder of the Milton and Rose D. Friedman Foundation. She was a professor at the University of Chicago Law School. Rose was married to Milton Friedman, the 1976 Nobel Prize winner in Economics, and was the sister of Aaron Director.

Born in Staryi Chortoryisk, Ukraine, to the Director family, prominent Jewish residents, Rose Friedman attended Reed College and later transferred to the University of Chicago where she earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree. She also pursued doctoral studies in economics at the University of Chicago.
