Nuria Varela Menéndez is a writer, journalist, and expert in radical feminism and gender violence. She graduated in Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid and holds a Master's in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies and a Master's in Gender and Equality Policies for Women and Men, both from Rey Juan Carlos University. Varela has worked for the news agency OTR and the weekly magazines Panorama and Interviú. She has contributed to publications such as Meridiam, Números Rojos, the European Journal of Fundamental Rights, Revista 21, and Contrapunto de América Latina, as well as with Cadena Ser.
Varela served as the Director of the Cabinet for Minister Bibiana Aído, playing a pivotal role in the establishment of Spain's first Ministry of Equality during the IX Legislature. She was later appointed as Director General of Equality in the Government of Asturias. Her expertise extends to reporting on armed conflicts with a gender perspective. Varela is the author of notable works such as Íbamos a ser reinas, Feminismo para principiantes, and Cansadas.
