Maryanne Vollers

Maryanne Vollers is an American author, journalist, and ghostwriter. Her first book, Ghosts of Mississippi, was a finalist in non-fiction for the 1995 National Book Award. Her collaborations include memoirs with Hillary Rodham Clinton, Dr. Jerri Nielsen, Sissy Spacek, Ashley Judd, and Billie Jean King.

Her second book on domestic terrorism, Lone Wolf: Eric Rudolph – Murder, Myth, and the Pursuit of an American Outlaw, was published in 2006. A former editor at Rolling Stone, she has written for publications such as Esquire, GQ, Sports Illustrated, Time, and The New York Times Magazine.

Maryanne spent more than two years in Washington working with Hillary Rodham Clinton on her memoir, Living History. Of her collaborator, Clinton wrote: "Maryanne helped me conceive this book and shepherded it – and me – over its ups and downs." At its release, Living History was reportedly the fastest-selling nonfiction book in history.

Her book, Ice Bound, collaboration with Jerri Nielsen, became a #1 New York Times bestseller. Vollers’ next book was about domestic terrorism and the hunt for the Olympic Park bomber, published by HarperCollins in 2006. It was described as "cool, gripping…a standout."

In 2011, she collaborated with Ashley Judd on All That is Bitter and Sweet, which debuted at #5 on the New York Times bestseller list. She also collaborated with Sissy Spacek on My Extraordinary Ordinary Life, praised as "warm, heartfelt and very real."

Her collaboration with North Korean defector Yeonmi Park, In Order to Live, released in 2015, became an international bestseller. In 2021, Penguin Random House published Billie Jean King’s All In: An Autobiography, co-written by Vollers, which was described as "a lively and inspiring portrait."
