Marie Lu

Marie Lu, born as Xiwei Lu, is an American young adult science fiction and fantasy author. She is best known for the Legend series, novels set in a dystopian and militarized future, as well as the Young Elites series, the Warcross series, and Batman: Nightwalker in the DC Icons series.

Marie Lu was born in China in 1984. The name she was given at birth was Xiwei, although it is fairly common for the Chinese people to adopt a "western" name, especially when they move to western countries. Marie Lu moved to the United States of America at the age of 5 along with her parents in the wake of the Tiananmen protests. Her entire life and career were built there from then on.

The first Marie Lu book that was actually published was Legend. It saw the light in 2011 and became an immediate success. Before she managed to get her green light, she was writing diligently for over 12 years. Marie Lu's new series, The Young Elites, drops the dystopian theme, but her writing style is still there. The Warcross series covers the global game, hackers, and mysterious benefactors.

Marie Lu has a passion for writing that began when she was as young as 4-5 years old. Her works have made quite an impact on modern literature, and she is masterfully playing around with the dystopian genre, giving it a new spin that revives the slightly forgotten interest of the reader community.

Along with many big-shot writers, Marie Lu is represented by Kristin Nelson of the Nelson Literary Agency, a partnership that has been very productive.
