Marguerite Henry

Marguerite Henry (née Breithaupt) was an American writer born on April 13, 1902. She is renowned for her extensive collection of fifty-nine children's books, which are based on true stories of horses and other animals.

Her work captivated entire generations of children and young adults and received several Newbery Awards and Honors. Marguerite won the prestigious Newbery Medal for her 1948 book King of the Wind, and she was a runner-up for two other works. One of these, Misty of Chincoteague (1947), not only inspired several sequels but also served as the basis for the 1961 movie Misty.

Marguerite Henry passed away on November 26, 1997, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire readers with her tales of equine adventures.
