CLAMP is an all-woman Japanese manga artist group that started as a twelve-member doujinshi circle in 1989. Initially formed in high school, they began creating doujinshi, which are self-published works, and continued to do so from 1987 until 1991. CLAMP debuted in a commercial magazine with RG Veda in the 3rd issue of South (Shinshokan) in 1989.
Over the years, they have published works in shoujo (young female), shounen (young male), and seinen (adult male) magazines, creating a wide variety of stories ranging from the mature-themed to those suitable for children. Notable works include Tokyo Babylon, X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Cardcaptor Sakura, Angelic Layer, Chobits, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, xxxHOLiC, Kobato., GATE 7, and Drug & Drop. They are also involved in the anime industry, providing original character design drafts for the Code Geass series and Cardfight!! Vanguard overDress series, as well as scriptwriting and series composition for the collaboration with Production I.G, the BLOOD-C series. They have also handled series composition, scriptwriting, and costume design for their own work, Cardcaptor Sakura.
Currently, CLAMP is serializing Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card in Nakayoshi magazine. The group has seen changes over the years, with the original twelve members eventually whittling down to the current four core members: Mokona (previously Mokona Apapa), Nanase Ohkawa (formerly Ageha Ohkawa), Tsubaki Nekoi (formerly Mick Nekoi), and Satsuki Igarashi. They reside in Tokyo and are highly regarded for their distinct and detailed artistic style and complex storytelling.
