Born in Cape Town, South Africa, where his father was an Anglican priest and a member of the ANC, Riddell moved to England in 1963 at the age of one. He was raised in various locations due to his father's work in different parishes. Both of his parents remained active in the anti-apartheid movement. An internationally acclaimed writer and illustrator, Riddell has created over one hundred books, which cater to a wide range of ages. Among his most celebrated works are the Edge Chronicles series and his latest chapter book series, which features the endearing protagonist.
