Brent Weeks was born on March 7, 1977, and raised in Montana. After receiving his education from Hillsdale College, Brent embarked on a journey that saw him engage in various occupations including wandering the earth like Caine from Kung Fu, tending bar, and teaching. His journey into writing began with scribbles on bar napkins and lesson plans, eventually evolving to full-time writing that led to his recognition.
His debut novel, The Way of Shadows, was a New York Times bestseller in April 2009. This success was followed by each of the five books in his Lightbringer series making the NYT list as well, starting with The Black Prism in 2010. His work has been translated into numerous languages and has been nominated for the David Gemmell fantasy award.
Weeks's first trilogy, the Night Angel Trilogy, was published by Orbit in 2008 and has captivated readers with its story of Azoth, an orphan who becomes a magically empowered assassin. In 2016, Weeks announced that his previously declared Lightbringer tetralogy would expand into a series of five books.
Personal life has been equally fulfilling for Weeks. In a small-town Montana school at age 12, he met the two great loves of his life: literature, introduced to him by Edgar Allan Poe, and Kristi Barnes, who would later become his wife. Despite an initial setback in romance, Weeks's determination saw him marrying Kristi. They now live near Portland, Oregon, with their two daughters.
