Angie Thomas was born, raised, and still resides in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a former teen rapper whose greatest accomplishment was an article about her in Right-On Magazine. She holds a BFA in Creative Writing from Belhaven University. Angie Thomas is best known for writing The Hate U Give (2017). Her second young adult novel, On the Come Up, was released on February 25, 2019.

Although she writes fiction, the objective of her work is to shed light on the challenges faced by many African Americans in the United States and to facilitate understanding of the Black Lives Matter movement.
