Andrea Chapela is a distinguished Mexican writer, widely recognized for her contributions to literature. Born in 1990 in Mexico City, she has pursued a rich academic background, having studied chemistry at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and earning a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the prestigious University of Iowa. She has further honed her craft at the Clarion West Writers Workshop, renowned for its focus on fantasy and science fiction, where she was part of the 2017 class.
Chapela spent two impactful years at the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, supported by a grant to develop an essay collection. In recognition of her literary talents, she has been a recipient of the FONCA scholarship on two occasions, for stories in 2016-2017 and for novels in 2019-2020.
Her bibliography boasts an array of works, including the young adult tetralogy Vâudïz, the insightful essay collection Grados de miopía, and the imaginative story collections Un año de servicio a la habitación and Ansibles, perfiladores y otras máquinas de ingenio.
