Sixteen-year-old Yara Silva has always known that ghosts walk alongside the living. The women in her family, known as Wakers, are born with the unique ability to see and communicate with ghosts. Growing up, Yara watched her grandmother face ridicule for this unusual gift and hoped she would never have to endure the same fate.

At sixteen, Yara's powers have yet to manifest, and she is hopeful that she might live a normal teenage life. However, everything changes on her first day at an elite boarding school when she encounters a dark mist attacking a handsome fellow student named Brent. Her brave act of heroism draws the mist's attention, and soon, a dark spirit begins to stalk her.
