Yoss, the pen name of José Miguel Sánchez Gómez, is a Cuban author renowned for his contributions to the science fiction genre. He assumed his pseudonym in 1988 upon winning the Premio David Award in the science fiction category for his work Timshel. His distinctive identity is further embellished by his impertinent rocker aesthetic, distinguishing him among Cuban writers.
Yoss earned a degree in Biology in 1991 and later graduated from the Onelio Jorge Cardoso Center of Literary Training in 1999, where he studied Narrative Techniques. He has been an active promoter of Cuban science fiction through the literary workshops Espiral and Espacio Abierto. In addition to his novels, Yoss also writes essays, reviews, and compilations. His work is a blend of realism and science fiction, reflecting the diverse range of his literary talents.
Yoss has been a part of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba since 1994 and has participated in multiple international science fiction and fantasy conventions. His stories have been featured in various anthologies and virtual magazines such as CF i+Real in Cuba and Axxón in Argentina. Yoss's works have reached audiences in Italy, Spain, and France as well.
