Yusuf Bilyarta Mangunwijaya was an architect, writer, Catholic priest, and activist. Commonly known as Romo Mangun (Father Mangun), he gained public recognition with his novel "Burung-Burung Manyar", which received the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for South-East Asia Writings in 1996.
Romo Mangun was not only active in fiction, but he also contributed significantly to non-fiction and architectural literature. His notable work "Sastra dan Religiositas" (translated as: Literature and Religiosity) won the The Best Non-Fiction prize in 1982.
