Terence Hanbury "Tim" White (29 May 1906 – 17 January 1964) was an English writer, best known for his Arthurian novels. His most famous work, The Once and Future King, which includes the renowned The Sword in the Stone, was first published together in 1958. The works are celebrated for their imaginative retelling of the Arthurian legends. The Sword in the Stone, the initial book of the series, was released as a standalone piece in 1938.
Born in Bombay to English parents, White was educated at Cambridge and initially pursued a career in teaching at Stowe before dedicating himself to writing full-time. In 1939, as a conscientious objector to World War II, he moved to Ireland where he lived for the remainder of his life. White's mastery in blending historical fiction with fantasy has immortalized his contributions to the genre, making his narratives an enduring part of the literary landscape.
