Stephen Chbosky is a versatile talent in the American entertainment industry, having made significant contributions as a film director, screenwriter, and author. His most celebrated work is the bestselling coming-of-age novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower, published in 1999. The novel not only resonated with a generation of readers but also saw Chbosky taking the helm as director for its 2012 film adaptation. His prowess in filmmaking was further exhibited with the direction of the touching 2017 drama Wonder and the poignant 2021 film adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen.
In 2019, Chbosky ventured into new literary territory with the release of his first psychological horror novel, Imaginary Friend. His roots trace back to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he grew up and later attended the University of Southern California's Filmic Writing Program. He first gained attention at the Sundance Film Festival in 1995 with his film The Four Corners of Nowhere, which went on to win accolades at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. Chbosky has been recognized with the Abraham Polonsky Screenwriting Award for his screenplay Everything Divided and has participated in the Sundance Institute's filmmakers' lab for his project, Fingernails and Smooth Skin.
