René Goscinny

René Goscinny was a French comic editor and writer, renowned for his creation of the Astérix comic book series alongside illustrator Albert Uderzo. Born on 14 August 1926, Goscinny spent much of his early life in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he attended French schools. He also lived in the United States for a brief period, during which he met Belgian cartoonist Morris. Together, they collaborated for over two decades on the comic series Lucky Luke, marking the series' golden age.


In addition to Astérix, Goscinny co-created the character Iznogoud with Jean Tabary and authored the beloved children's series Le Petit Nicolas, illustrated by Jean-Jacques Sempé. He was also the co-founder and director of the weekly magazine Pilote.


Goscinny's work has achieved global success, with more than 500 million books sold and translations in over thirty languages. He passed away on 5 November 1977.
