Rebecca Wells

Rebecca Wells is a multifaceted American author, actor, and playwright, born on February 3, 1953, in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. She is widely recognized for the Ya-Ya Sisterhood series, which includes celebrated books like Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Little Altars Everywhere, Ya-Yas in Bloom, and The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder.

Wells grew up in Alexandria, Louisiana, a place teeming with vibrant storytelling and colorful personalities. Influences from her upbringing, such as harvest times, craw-fishing in the bayou, and dancing with her family, deeply nurtured her imagination and inspired her career in writing and acting.

Her novel, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, was a phenomenal success, spending over a year on the #1 New York Times Bestseller list and being translated into 28 languages. It has sold over 6 million copies and was adapted into a feature film by Warner Brothers.

Rebecca's other bestselling novels include Little Altars Everywhere and Ya-Yas in Bloom, both well-received by readers and critics alike. Her stand-alone novel, The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder, introduced readers to the enchanting town of Le Clair, Louisiana.

Besides writing, Wells is an accomplished actress and playwright. She has toured her one-woman show Splittin’ Hairs and performed in plays such as Gloria Duplex in New York.

Rebecca studied Tibetan Buddhism and creative writing at the Naropa Institute and acting in New York City. Her varied career also includes teaching writing and acting at several universities, such as the University of Idaho and the University of California at Santa Cruz.

Wells currently resides on an island in Puget Sound, Washington, where she continues her creative pursuits, including writing new books and performing her one-woman shows.
