Ransom Riggs is an American writer and filmmaker, best known for his novel Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Riggs was born on February 3, 1979, in Maryland. His creative journey began early, growing up on a farm on the Eastern shore of Maryland and in a little house by the beach in Englewood, Florida. This dual upbringing between farm and beach ignited his imagination, leading him to start writing stories at a young age, using both an old typewriter that jammed and longhand on legal pads.
Fascinated by storytelling in various forms, Riggs's passion expanded beyond writing. After receiving a camera for Christmas during his youth, he became obsessed with photography. This fascination only grew, and eventually, he and his friends began making their own movies, using their bedrooms and backyards as sets. This blend of writing, photography, and filmmaking has defined his creative outlets ever since.
Riggs now resides in Los Angeles with his wife, fellow novelist Tahereh Mafi. His work is represented by Jodi Reamer of Writerβs House, LLC, and he continues to explore storytelling through words, pictures, and film.
