Rafael Albuquerque

Rafael Albuquerque is a renowned Brazilian comic book creator, celebrated for his significant contributions to the graphic novel and comic book industry. Born on April 12, 1981, in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil, Albuquerque initially embarked on a career in advertising, producing illustrations for local companies. His passion for comic books emerged in 2002, leading him to dedicate his efforts solely to the publishing market, showcasing his portfolio primarily online. This digital presence led to his international breakthrough when an Egyptian company, AK Comics, offered him his inaugural comic book assignment.

Albuquerque's collaboration with AK Comics extended beyond his role as an artist; he frequently contributed as a creator, playing a pivotal role in the company's success. In 2005, he partnered with writer Felipe Ferreira to develop the original graphic novel Crimeland (initially titled Rumble in la Rambla), which was published in 2007 by Image Comics. His notable work includes his artistry on titles such as DC Comics' Blue Beetle and his co-creation and illustration of the acclaimed series American Vampire. Albuquerque is lauded not only for his skills as a penciler and inker of interior comic art but also for his work as a cover artist, colorist, and writer.
