Radek John

Radek John (born 6 December 1954) is a Czech journalist, writer, screenwriter, and politician. He served as the Minister of Interior from 2010 to 2011 under Prime Minister Petr Nečas and was the Leader of the Public Affairs party from 2009 to 2013.

His novel Memento is notable for being the first book to examine the drug problem in the context of former communist Czechoslovakia. This groundbreaking work has been translated into ten languages.

John graduated in 1979 from the Faculty of Film and Television at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he studied screenwriting and dramaturgy of feature films. From 1980 to 1993, he was an editor at the magazine Mladý svět, contributing reports on drug addicts, money changers, prostitutes, flag bearers, and the panic surrounding AIDS, as well as a series of travel reports. In the 1980s, he worked as a screenwriter at the Barrandov Film Studio and collaborated with television. He authored screenplays for films such as Jen si tak trochu písknout, Sněženky a machři, Bony a klid, Proč?, Tankový prapor, and Ta naše písnička česká II. His literary work primarily focuses on the issues faced by young people in today's world, particularly drugs, violence, and prostitution.

From 29 May 2010 to 28 August 2013, John was a member of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic.
