Owen Dudley Edwards is an Irish historian and former Reader in Commonwealth and American History at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He is a recognized expert on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, P. G. Wodehouse, and Oscar Wilde, about each of whom he has written extensively.
Owen attended Belvedere College, Dublin, University College, Dublin, and The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. His academic contributions have earned him a reputation as a respected scholar within his field. Notably, he is the general editor of the Oxford Sherlock Holmes series.
Born to a family with academic and literary roots, Owen is the son of Professor Robert Dudley Edwards and the brother to Irish writer Ruth Dudley Edwards. In 1966, he married Barbara Balbirnie Lee, and together they have three children. Edwards' engaging approach to historical topics and his insightful analysis of literary works have made him a prominent figure in the study of Commonwealth and American History.
