Orly Castel-Bloom is an Israeli author known for her unique and influential literary style. Born in Tel Aviv in 1960 to a family of Egyptian Jews, she was raised by French nannies and spoke only French until the age of three. She pursued studies in cinematography at the University of Tel Aviv and the Beit Zvi School for the Performing Arts in Ramat Gan.
Castel-Bloom has published numerous books, including collections of short fiction and novels. Her notable work, Dolly City, published in 1992, was included in the UNESCO Collection of Representative Works. In 1999, she was named one of the fifty most influential women in Israel.
Orly Castel-Bloom currently resides in Tel Aviv and is a mother of two children. Her contributions to literature have been recognized with awards such as the Alterman Prize and Newman Prize.
