Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah is an American speculative fiction author renowned for his powerful storytelling and poignant themes. His debut short story collection, Friday Black, released in 2018, garnered critical acclaim and established Adjei-Brenyah as an important new voice in the realm of speculative fiction. Following this success, he went on to publish his first novel, Chain-Gang All-Stars, in 2023, which further solidified his reputation as a compelling writer.
Adjei-Brenyah's achievements include being named one of the "5 under 35 Authors" by the National Book Foundation in 2018. He also won the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award in 2019. Chain-Gang All-Stars was shortlisted for the 2023 National Book Award for Fiction, and The New York Times praised it as one of the ten best books of the year.
He hails from Spring Valley, New York, and has a strong educational foundation in writing. Adjei-Brenyah earned his graduate degree from SUNY Albany before receiving his MFA from Syracuse University. His tenure as the '16-'17 Olive B. O'Connor fellow in fiction at Colgate University further honed his craft.
