Molly Knox Ostertag

Molly Knox Ostertag is an acclaimed American cartoonist and writer known for her captivating work in the world of comics and animation. Born on October 28, 1991, Ostertag has carved out a significant place in the industry with her compelling storytelling and artistic prowess.

Growing up in the forests of upstate New York, Ostertag's early life was split between immersing herself in fantastical adventures through reading, and later on, acting them out with foam swords at a live-action roleplaying camp. She pursued her passion for art by attending the School of Visual Arts, where she graduated in 2014 with a focus on cartooning and illustration. Now residing in Los Angeles, her artistic interests include exploring themes such as women in fiction, fantasy and sci-fi, superheroes, and history.

Ostertag gained recognition through her work on the webcomic Strong Female Protagonist, co-created with Brennan Lee Mulligan. Launched in 2012, the webcomic received accolades including a spot on io9's list of Best New and Short Webcomics. Ostertag also ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2014 to print the first volume of the series.

Her talent extends to the animated series The Owl House, as well as the middle grade graphic novel series, which includes titles such as The Witch Boy, The Hidden Witch, and The Midwinter Witch. Additionally, she has contributed to the series Tales of the Night Watchman. In recognition of her achievements, Ostertag was named one of Forbes magazine's 30 Under 30 in 2021.
