Michael Dante DiMartino

Michael Dante DiMartino is an American animator, producer, writer, and director, best known for co-creating the epic animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra on Nickelodeon, alongside Bryan Konietzko.

DiMartino was born on July 18, 1974, and is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, where he honed his craft in the Film and Animation department. After moving to Los Angeles, he worked as a director on beloved shows like King of the Hill and Family Guy. From 2004 to 2014, he was the executive producer and story editor for Avatar and Korra.

When Korra wrapped, DiMartino continued the story by writing the graphic novels Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire. Although animation was his first love, he embraced another creative goal: writing novels. He debuted in prose with the Rebel Genius series, a middle-grade fantasy about young artists and their birdlike spirits battling a tyrant who stifles creativity.

Expanding his creative boundaries further, DiMartino ventured into audio storytelling with the Audible Original fiction podcast, Sundown: A Time Capsule Society Mystery. Currently, he serves as the co-Chief Creative Officer of Avatar Studios, helping to expand the Avatar universe.

His recent work, Both Here and Gone, is a heartfelt coming-of-age story with a psychological twist. Through animation, graphic novels, podcasts, or books, DiMartino is dedicated to telling stories that resonate, inspire, and stick with audiences long after the last page is turned or the credits roll.

DiMartino lives in Los Angeles with his wife. His personal website is michaeldantedimartino.com.
