Michael Dante DiMartino is an American animator, producer, writer, and director. Born on July 18, 1974, he is best known, together with Bryan Konietzko, as the co-creator of the animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, both on Nickelodeon.
DiMartino's creative journey began at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he honed his craft in the Film and Animation department. After moving to Los Angeles, he directed popular shows like King of the Hill and Family Guy. From 2004 to 2014, he was the executive producer and story editor for Avatar and Korra. When Korra wrapped, he continued the story by writing the graphic novels Turf Wars and Ruins of the Empire.
Though animation was his first love, DiMartino also pursued writing novels, starting with Rebel Genius, the first book in a middle-grade fantasy series. His storytelling adventures further expanded into audio storytelling with the creation of the Audible Original fiction podcast, Sundown: A Time Capsule Society Mystery.
Currently, he serves as the co-Chief Creative Officer of Avatar Studios, where he helps expand the Avatarverse. Recently, his storytelling interests have taken a fresh turn with Both Here and Gone, a heartfelt coming-of-age story with a psychological twist.
