Mahbod Seraji, Ph.D., is an Iranian-American author, best known for his critically acclaimed novel, Rooftops of Tehran, which was published by NAL (an imprint of Penguin) in May 2009. Seraji was born on October 18, 1956. His literary work extends beyond his novel, with short stories and articles on platforms such as Truthout.org, Bookreporter, Velvet Illusions, and Iranian.com.
Rooftops of Tehran is a richly rendered first novel about courage, sacrifice, and the bonds of friendship and love. Through clear, vivid details, Seraji opens the door to the fascinating world of Iran, providing a revealing glimpse into the life and customs of a country on the verge of a revolution. The story is noted for its charming romance, capturing the thoughts and emotions of a young boy and creating a moving portrait of the history and customs of the Persians and life in Iran. This coming-of-age story is at times funny and sweet, as well as thought-provoking and heart-wrenching. It is refreshingly filled with love rather than sex, examining the human cost of political change.
