Lorenzo Carcaterra is a number-one New York Times bestselling author whose highly successful career spans more than 25 years, encompassing the diverse fields of fiction, non-fiction, television, and film.
Born and raised in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, Carcaterra began his career in the newspaper business as a copy boy for The New York Daily News in 1976. He advanced to become an entertainment reporter before leaving the paper in 1982.
Carcaterra then joined Time Inc. and TV-Cable Week as a senior writer, but the magazine folded after nine months, leaving him unemployed. This was followed by a brief four-month stint at People magazine, and subsequently, a period of writing for numerous start-up publications, including Picture Week and Entertainment Tonight Magazine.
His most notable work, Sleepers, is set in Hell's Kitchen and became a 1996 film of the same name.
In April 2009, Carcaterra joined True/Slant as a blogger until its closure on July 31, 2010.
