Lisa Genova is an American neuroscientist and author, born on November 22, 1970. She is best known for her debut novel, Still Alice (2007), which she self-published. The novel, about a Harvard University professor with early-onset Alzheimer's disease, was adapted into a 2014 film that won the Academy Award for Best Actress for Julianne Moore's performance as Alice Howland.
Genova has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Harvard University and graduated valedictorian, summa cum laude from Bates College with a degree in Biopsychology. Acclaimed as the Oliver Sacks of fiction and the Michael Crichton of brain science, she has written novels inspired by neurological conditions that explore our shared human experience.
Her other bestselling novels include Left Neglected, Love Anthony, Inside the O'Briens, and Every Note Played. Her first nonfiction work, REMEMBER: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting, published in March 2021, quickly became a New York Times bestseller.
