Katherine Irene Kurtz is an American fantasy writer, born on October 18, 1944. She is renowned for her historical fantasy novels in the Deryni series, which comprises sixteen novels. In addition to her work in historical fantasy, she has also authored works in the occult and urban fantasy genres.

Having resided in Ireland for over two decades, she relocated to Virginia in 2007.
