Kashana Cauley

Kashana Cauley is an American comedy writer and the author of the novel The Survivalists. She is known for her work as a writer for the Fox comedy The Great North, and as a former staff writer for The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Additionally, she has been a contributing opinion writer for The New York Times and has contributed to publications such as The Atlantic, Esquire, The New Yorker, Pitchfork, and Rolling Stone. She has also written for Pod Save America on HBO.

Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Kashana Cauley transitioned from being a Midtown antitrust lawyer to a career in comedy and social commentary. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California.

In 2016, Cauley published an article in The Atlantic discussing her experience with the anti-vaccination movement in the 1990s, which led to opportunities to write on other topics, including her work for The Daily Show, where she was nominated for a WGA award. Her satire often focuses on systemic injustice and issues within American society.

In January 2023, Cauley published her debut novel, The Survivalists, which was recognized as a Winter/Spring 2023 Indies Introduce adult selection and a January 2023 Indie Next List selection. The novel received favorable reviews from major publications like The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The Wall Street Journal, and was named a Best Book of 2023 by The Today Show, Vogue, Marie Claire, Harper’s Bazaar, Kirkus, and the BBC. It was also longlisted for the 2023 Center for Fiction First Novel Prize.

Kashana Cauley's upcoming novel The Payback is set to be released by Atria/Simon & Schuster in Summer 2025.
