Kali Wallace is an American author known for her speculative fiction for both children and adults. Wallace's journey to becoming a writer was not straightforward; her early aspirations were grounded in the sciences. She pursued geology at Brown University and later acquired a PhD in geophysics from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where her research focused on Himalayan mountain-building and Indian earthquakes. However, her passion for writing fiction remained a constant throughout her life.
Her dedication to writing took a decisive turn after attending the Clarion Writers' Workshop at the University of California at San Diego in 2010 and selling her first short story later that year. Her works have graced the pages of prominent science fiction and fantasy magazines such as Clarkesworld, F&SF, Asimov's, Lightspeed Magazine, and Tor.com.
In 2014, she sold her first two novels, leading to the publication of Shallow Graves in January 2016 and The Memory Trees in October 2017. Her first foray into children's literature, City of Islands, was released in the summer of 2018. Transitioning into adult fiction, Wallace published her first science fiction novel for adults, Salvation Day, followed by Dead Space, both under Berkley.
Her recent work includes Hunters of the Lost City, a middle grade fantasy that features a narrative rich with monsters, magic, and inspirational girls determined to make a difference in the world. Released by Quirk Books, this novel continues to showcase Wallace's talent for crafting immersive and imaginative tales.
Represented by Adriann Ranta Zurhellen of Folio Literary Management, Wallace has roots in Colorado, has spent time in Southern California, and currently resides amidst the lush greenery of the Pacific Northwest. With a penchant for creating fictional worlds as compelling as the real one, her literary contributions continue to captivate a diverse audience of readers.
