Kader Abdolah, born Hossein Sadjadi Ghaemmaghami Farahani on November 12, 1954, in Arak, Iran, is a renowned Iranian-Dutch writer, poet, and columnist. He fled Iran as a political refugee in 1988 and has been living in the Netherlands since then. Abdolah writes primarily in Dutch, incorporating rich Persian literary themes into his works. His pen name "Kader Abdolah" honors two friends who were murdered by the Iranian regime.
Abdolah has gained significant fame in the Netherlands with his bestseller Het huis van de moskee (The House of the Mosque), which brought him to the forefront of Dutch literature. Additionally, he is a regular contributor to the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant and has been awarded the Dutch Media Prize for his columns. He studied physics at the University of Teheran.
