Joshua Eugene Harris is an American former pastor and author, renowned for his book I Kissed Dating Goodbye, which promotes what he views as a biblical approach to dating and relationships. Harris was born in Dayton, Ohio, and is the eldest of seven children to Gregg and Sono Harris, pioneers in the Christian homeschooling movement.
As a teenager, Harris published New Attitude, a magazine aimed at homeschooled individuals from 1994 to 1997. His first book, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, was published in 1997 and sold nearly a million copies worldwide. Some of his subsequent works include Boy Meets Girl, partially describing his engagement to his wife, Shannon, published in 2000; Not Even a Hint in 2003, and Stop Dating the Church! published in 2004.
Harris initiated and led the New Attitude singles conference from 1999 to 2004, which was later revived under different leadership. The conference focuses on equipping young Christians with biblical truths while emphasizing the importance of the local church. Harris has coined the term "Humble Orthodoxy" to describe these principles, advocating for a commitment to truth with humility.
In 2019, Harris announced his divorce and renunciation of the Christian faith. He has since apologized to the LGBTQ+ community, whom he previously confronted.
