John Maher is an English car specialist and former drummer of the punk band Buzzcocks. He was born on April 21, 1960. At the age of 16, while still a student at St. Bede's Catholic School in Manchester, Maher joined the Buzzcocks, which at that time included Howard Devoto on vocals and Pete Shelley on guitar. He remained with the band until 1981 when it first disbanded. During his time with the Buzzcocks, he also collaborated with Pauline Murray and The Invisible Girls and Wah!.
After the Buzzcocks disbanded, Maher formed Flag of Convenience with Steve Diggle, another member of the Buzzcocks, although he soon parted ways with the group. Currently, Maher is dedicated to car repairs and runs his own company, "John Maher Racing."
