Jean-Jacques Sempé, usually known as Sempé, was a renowned French cartoonist. He was born on 17 August 1932 and passed away on 11 August 2022. Sempé is best known for the beloved series of children's books he created with René Goscinny, titled Le Petit Nicolas. His unique style includes poster-like illustrations often drawn from a distant or high viewpoint, depicting detailed countrysides or cities. Over the decades, he contributed numerous covers for The New Yorker.
