Jacques Vriens is a renowned Dutch children's author and playwright. Born on 26 March 1946, he has made significant contributions to children's literature in the Netherlands. He gained widespread recognition for his 1999 book Achtste-groepers huilen niet, which has been adapted into a film twice.

Before becoming a full-time writer, Vriens worked as a schoolteacher. His experiences in education deeply influenced his writing, providing him with insights into the lives and imaginations of children. He has also written for the show Tien torens diep.

In 2001, Jacques Vriens was honored by being appointed to the Order of the Netherlands Lion by Queen Beatrix, a testament to his contributions to literature and culture.
