Indu Sundaresan is an Indian-American author known for her captivating historical fiction. Born and raised in India, she grew up on various Air Force bases, where her father, a fighter pilot and a masterful storyteller, inspired her love for stories through his dramatic tales and rich Hindu mythology.
After earning an undergraduate degree in economics in India, Indu moved to the United States for graduate studies at the University of Delaware, where she obtained a Master of Arts in Economics and a Master of Science in Operations Research. Her passion for storytelling led her to write novels and short stories, culminating in her first published novel, The Twentieth Wife.
Sundaresan is acclaimed for the Taj Trilogy, which includes The Twentieth Wife, The Feast of Roses, and Shadow Princess. She has authored six books, including a collection of short stories, In the Convent of Little Flowers, and novels like The Splendor of Silence and The Mountain of Light. Her works have been translated into over 23 languages worldwide and have earned her several accolades, including the Washington State Book Award and the Light of India award for Excellence in Literature.
A television adaptation of The Twentieth Wife, titled Siyaasat, is available on Netflix. Indu's novels are also available in Tamil, translated by her mother, which marks a significant personal achievement for her. Currently, she resides in Seattle, Washington, with her family.
