Héctor Joaquín Abad Faciolince is a renowned Colombian novelist, essayist, journalist, and editor. Born on October 1, 1958, in Medellín, Colombia, Abad is considered one of the most talented post-Latin American Boom writers in Latin American literature. He is best known for his bestselling novels Angosta and El Olvido que Seremos (translated as Oblivion: A Memoir).
His work often explores themes of memory and loss, particularly evident in El Olvido que Seremos, which delves into the life and tragic assassination of his father, Héctor Abad Gómez. This book was awarded the Casa de América Latina Prize in Portugal for best Latin American work and the Wola-Duke Human Rights Award.
Abad has also been honored with a Premio Nacional de Cuento, a Beca Nacional de Novela (1994), and two Simón Bolívar Opinion Journalism Awards (1998 and 2006). In 2016, he founded Angosta Editores, an independent publishing house in Colombia.
