Ha Jin, born as Jin Xuefei, on February 21, 1956, is a Chinese American poet and novelist. He is renowned for his work which is often associated with the Misty Poetry movement. Ha Jin, a pen name, is derived from his favorite city, Harbin.
Ha Jin writes in English about Chinese life and culture, making a significant political decision to continue writing in English post-Tiananmen Square. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the National Book Award in 1999, and has been a finalist for the 2005 Pulitzer Prize. He is also a recipient of the award from the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006 and the Faulkner Award in 2005.
Currently, Ha Jin serves as a Professor of English at Boston University, where he contributes to the esteemed MFA Program in Creative Writing. His educational and literary work in the United States has further established his reputation as a significant literary figure.
