Gary Russell is a British freelance writer, producer, and former child actor. He is particularly known for his association with the television series Doctor Who and its various spin-offs in different media. As a writer, Russell has published several novels based on Doctor Who as well as spin-off series.
Aside from his work on Doctor Who, Russell has written 'The Art of The Lord of the Rings,' a series consisting of three books that collect the designs by artists Alan Lee and John Howe, and the draftsmen of Weta Workshop, during the production of the film trilogy directed by Peter Jackson.
In his acting career, Russell is best known for his portrayal of Dick Kirrin in the 1978 British television series The Famous Five, based on Enid Blyton's book series. He has also made cameo appearances in films. Russell formerly held the position of editor for Doctor Who Magazine and produced Doctor Who audio dramas for Big Finish Productions for eight years. He resides in Cardiff.
