Fiep Westendorp, born Sophia Maria Westendorp, was a distinguished Dutch illustrator. She was best known for her long-term collaboration with writer Annie M.G. Schmidt, particularly on the creation of the beloved characters Jip and Janneke.
Westendorp's illustrations gained immense popularity in the Netherlands, with her work adorning numerous products sold by the renowned Dutch department store HEMA. Her artistic contributions spanned generations, making her a cherished figure in Dutch culture.
In 1997, Fiep Westendorp received a special illustration award honoring her lifetime achievements. Her legacy continues with the University of Amsterdam establishing a Chair of Illustration in her name in 2007.
