Ed Brubaker is an acclaimed American comic book writer, cartoonist, and screenwriter known for his significant contributions to the crime fiction genre within the comics industry. His remarkable career began with the semi-autobiographical series Lowlife and continued with various serials in the Dark Horse Presents anthology.
Brubaker gained widespread recognition with the Vertigo series Scene of the Crime and subsequently made a name for himself in superhero comics with titles such as Batman, Catwoman, The Authority, Captain America, Daredevil, and Uncanny X-Men. His partnership with British artist Sean Phillips began with the Elseworlds one-shot Batman: Gotham Noir and has since flourished with several creator-owned series including Criminal, Incognito, Fatale, The Fade Out, and Kill or Be Killed.
A recipient of numerous awards, Brubaker's accolades include seven Eisner Awards, two Harvey Awards, an Ignatz Award, and a GLAAD Media Award. His talents extend beyond the realm of comics; he served as the executive producer and co-writer of the 2019 Amazon series Too Old to Die Young, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, and joined the writing staff of the HBO series Westworld.
Brubaker was born at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and since 2007, he has been residing in Seattle, Washington.
