E.F. Benson

Edward Frederic Benson, known as E. F. Benson, was an illustrious English novelist, biographer, memoirist, historian, and short story writer. He was born on 24 July 1867 and passed away on 29 February 1940. Benson gained wide recognition for his literary prowess and is particularly celebrated for his Mapp and Lucia series.

He was the younger brother of A.C. Benson, the lyricist for "Land of Hope and Glory", Robert Hugh Benson, an author known for novels and Roman Catholic apologetics, and Margaret Benson, an author and amateur Egyptologist. His familial connections enriched his literary and personal life, intertwining with the cultural fabric of his time.

Sadly, Benson died of throat cancer at the University College Hospital, London, and is buried in the cemetery at Rye, East Sussex, leaving behind a legacy of literary contributions that continue to be celebrated today.
