Dido Sotiriou

Dido Sotiriou (née Pappa; alternative spellings: Dido Sotiriu, Dido Sotiriyu; Greek: Διδώ Σωτηρίου) was a celebrated Greek novelist, journalist, and playwright. She was born on February 18, 1909 in Aϊdini, Asia Minor, to Evangelos Pappas and Marianthi Papadopoulou.

In 1919, Dido moved with her family to Smyrni (now Izmir), but they fled to Greece following the destruction of 1922. She completed her general education in Athens, where her teachers included literary figures such as Kostas Paroritis and Sophia Mayroeidis-Papadakis. Dido furthered her education at the French Institute of Athens and briefly studied French Literature at the University of Sorbonne in 1937.

In 1936, Sotiriou began her professional career in journalism, working for the magazine "Gynaika" (Woman) as editor-in-chief, and later for the newspaper "Neos Kosmos" (New World).
