David Brin

Glen David Brin is an American science fiction author born on October 6, 1950. He is renowned for his significant contributions to the genre and has been honored with several prestigious awards including the Hugo, Locus, Campbell, and Nebula Awards.

Brin's novel The Postman was adapted into a 1997 feature film starring Kevin Costner. His works are acclaimed for not only their imaginative storytelling but also their insightful predictions about future technological and societal trends.

His ecological thriller, Earth, notably foreshadowed global warming and cyberwarfare, while also predicting near-future trends such as the World Wide Web. Existence, his latest novel, offers an unusual scenario for first contact.

Among his celebrated works, Startide Rising won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards for best novel, and The Uplift War also received the Hugo Award.

In addition to his fiction, Brin has authored the non-fiction book The Transparent Society: Will Technology Force Us to Choose Between Freedom and Privacy?, which explores the impact of technology on privacy and freedom.
